EN: Manuel Rickert (1981) lives and works in Paris, France. Born in Kempten (Germany), he studied social science, fine arts and graphic design in Berlin, Buenos Aires and New Delhi and holds a diploma from Lette Verein as well as graduate and postgraduate degrees from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Employing strategies like repetition, variation and fragmentation he investigates the problem of visual representation. His current works consist of cut up and reassembled canvases without stretcher bars, that were painted with monochromatic gestures.

Recent exhibitions include solo exhibitions at M19 (Berlin), Sala Santiago Nattino (Santiago) and Casa Taller Lubina (Santiago). He is the winner of the competition "Desde Casa 2022" awarded by APECH (Association of painters and sculptors of Chile).



ES: Manuel Rickert (1981) vive y trabaja en París, Francia. Nacido en Kempten (Alemania), estudió Ciencias Sociales, Artes Visuales y Diseño Gráfico en Berlín, Buenos Aires y Nueva Delhi. Cuenta con un diploma de Lette Verein, y un pregrado y postgrado de la Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

En su trabajo artístico, Manuel problematiza la representación en lo visual a través de estrategias como la repetición, la variación y la fragmentación. Sus obras actuales consisten en lienzos cortados y reensamblados sin bastidor, pintados con gestos monocromáticos.

Sus exposiciones recientes incluyen muestras individuales en M19 (Berlín), Sala Santiago Nattino (Santiago) y Casa Taller Lubina (Santiago). Es ganador del concurso "Desde Casa 2022" otorgado por la APECH (Asociación de Pintores y Escultores de Chile).

Statement

EN: My artistic practice explores potential materializations of concepts such as difference, repetition and fragmentation through the means of painting. In this research on the possibilities of visual representation I draw on references from nature.

Herein, the particularities of the media I use are fundamental, as they enable the specific operations with which I construct and reconstruct images. In my process, painted canvases are frequently not a final product, but an intermediate step. I often cut them up, reassemble them, and sew them back together. These operations remain evident in my artworks.



ES: Mi práctica artística se centra en la exploración de posibles materializaciones de conceptos como la diferencia, la repetición y la fragmentación a partir de los recursos de la pintura. En esta investigación sobre las posibilidades de la representación visual me baso en referentes de la naturaleza.

Las particularidades de los medios que utilizo son fundamentales en mi proceso, ya que permiten las operaciones específicas con las que construyo y reconstruyo imágenes. Los lienzos pintados no suelen ser un producto final, sino un paso intermedio. A menudo los corto, los reensamblo y los vuelvo a montar a través de la costura. Estas operaciones permanecen evidentes en mis obras.
